About

Hello, I’m Gen. Welcome to Oishii Days.

I’m a Filipino-American living in beautiful Gifu, Japan, with my family. My days often revolve around cooking, exploring seasonal foods, and discovering the quiet beauty of everyday life here in Japan.

This blog is my little space to share moments that feel both ordinary and special—preparing simple Japanese breakfasts, wandering through autumn leaves, enjoying local festivals, or just finding joy in small daily routines.

Through Oishii Days, I hope to bring you closer to the flavors, culture, and gentle rhythms of life in Japan. Whether you’re here for recipes, travel ideas, or simply curious about daily living in Japan, I’m happy you stopped by.

Why I Started This Blog

A little over a year ago, I moved to Japan after marrying my Japanese husband. It was a big change—I left behind my nursing career in America to start a new chapter in a new country.

Adapting wasn’t easy. The language barrier, cultural differences, and adjusting to everyday life all felt like challenges. But with patience, study, and kindness from those around me, I’ve slowly found my rhythm.

My biggest turning point came when I joined a caregiving training program. What started as a chance to learn became a new career path in Japan. Even though I didn’t speak fluent Japanese, I was offered a job, supported by a team that believed in me. With time and effort, I earned my 初任者研修 (shoninsha kenshū) certification, and I continue to grow every day—both in language and in life.
